Yau Pak Hon Many people start sketching portraits because they want to capture the essence of the people around them, or because they want to create a prototype of their ideal character.
What's the bottleneck you're trying to break through when you're painting portraits?
Do you always feel that your facial features are in a strange position, or do you want to solve the problem that your shadows are not "three-dimensional" no matter how you draw them?
In the course of teaching, I have found that most students often get stuck in these structural difficulties when painting portraits:
⏺︎ The facial features are not aligned: obviously aligned according to the photo, but the eyes are always at different heights, or the center of gravity of the face is shifted.
⏺︎ The more brightness is drawn, the dirtier it gets: trying to add dimension by shading, but it turns out to be like a face smeared with gray, and you can't see the bones' twists and turns.
⏺︎ Lack of spatial awareness: when you change the angle of view (e.g. looking down or up), your mind goes blank and you don't know how to compress the shape.
This class will take you on a hands-on approach to drawing portraits, where you will learn how to build shapes from structural geometries.
