How to Paint the Light and Dark Layers of a Monstera Leaf

Before you start to draw, please make the desired color, we simply divide the leaf color into light side and dark side.

Mix different ratios of yellow and blue to create two bright colors, a green with more yellow and a green with more blue.

Next, use yellow and blue to bring out the blue-green, and a little reddish brown to bring out the darker side of the olive green.

1. Wet the leaves of the taro to be painted.

First, on the brightest part of the leaf, hit a layer of water that
Use a yellowish green (glossy), starting from the middle of the leaf and moving outwards, you can mix some bright blue-green, you need to pay attention to the glossy color is not kept clean.

Use diluted light green for glossy color, note that the glossy color will be lighter due to light exposure.
Blend the bright green color, dry and wash some veins or rich traces.

2. Adjust the color of the leaves.

2. After the light side of the painting to the dark side of the color (blue-green, olive), this time pay attention to not let the color on the paper dry out!

Drawing dark leaves can be pre-planned by color gradation, for example, potted plants are the darkest color in the picture.
For darker foliage, choose a shade lighter than the color of the potted plant.

3. Use full color pigment for leaf coloring to increase the richness of traces.

After the light and dark colors are finished, we can add some details to the leaf veins, using slightly thicker colors to trace the veins and increase the details of the leaves, you can switch to a small pen to draw up a little light on the leaf veins to increase the richness.

You can also use thin stacks to add interest to the leaves.
